Honda computers with a knock sensor will retard by up to 12 degrees under 5000 rpm. The whole idea of installing a Hondata system is to have your car tuned so that it does not knock in the first place.

tis a goal of any ems to be tuned free of knock . it is nice to have some insurance while in the process of tuning . joe shmoe dosnt have have a dyno and sophisticated test equipment . joe can only rely on the people producing these products to keep in mind that he lacks a tech team at his disposal . hondata seems pretty good with support . how would you hondata users rate their customer service ?

Remember I am in Birmingham Alabama. You can ride in to see my set-up in about 3.5 hours... and there is even a hotel within about a mile or so to sleep in.
The customer service from Hondata is some of the very best in the industry.

Many folks over looks the whole purpose of Hondata when doing a comparison with other systems. The 4B is mainly for shops and "power-users". Folks not wanting to spend ~$1400 can get a 1B or 2B and have the system tuned by someone else.
There is no other ugradeable P-ECU that you can get for ~$500. A group of 5 or 6 of us share a 4B and that makes the additional cost much easier to bear. I am very happy with my Hondata, my JRSC finally runs the way I have always wanted, 230hp @ 8psi.

Just some more fuel for the fire here. I'm an AEM dealer, and the retail on the AEM ECU is targeted at 1900 dollars. They are strictly enforcinga pricing policy on there and the minimum we can sell them for is 1695 dollars. Now this doesn't mean we can't wheel and deal via e-mail, but as for a published price that's about what everyone is stuck at...

Is the AEM system available yet ???
Also, remember that since the AEM system is BRAND NEW... tuner shops are just getting accustomed to using/programming it. This means that it will take a bit of time before the true potential of this system is evident. I believe that the AEM system will be a fine product (most everything else from AEM is)... however, the system is no better than the guy that tunes it.
A perfect example of this is the Motec System: it is the most advanced and most powerful engine management system available... and it is an absolute TERROR to program and tune. This is the reason many top racers use other products... they are simply more popular (meaning there are more tuners who can help) and easier to operate.
Right now, there are plenty of tried and true systems available that will do a great job. If you need to choose a system NOW, then I suggest you stay away from the AEM. If you can wait six months to a year... then consider it.
